In an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” President-elect Donald Trump repeated many lies. For example, about birthright citizenship, he said that the US is the only country in the world where people can become citizens at birth.
Trump said again that he wants to try to end birthright citizenship. The 14th Amendment of the Constitution says that anyone born in the US is automatically a citizen, even if neither of their parents is a citizen. He also said, “Our country is the only one that has it.”
This is not true; news outlets have already debunked the claim when Trump made it during his race for president in 2015 and during his first year in office in 2018. People born in about thirty countries automatically become citizens due to birthright citizenship. This includes most South American countries and Canada and Mexico, which are neighbors of the US.
Kamala Harris was right when she said Donald Trumps lies were just plain weird
